History of Amity, Arkansas

According to allcitycodes, Amity, Arkansas was founded in 1845 by a group of settlers from Alabama. The town was named after a nearby creek that ran through the area. The first settlers were mostly farmers who grew cotton and other crops. As the years passed, Amity slowly grew into a small town with several businesses including a general store, post office, blacksmith shop, and grist mill. As more people moved to the area, the population of Amity began to increase and more businesses were opened such as churches, schools, hotels, and banks.

In 1901 Amity became an incorporated town with its own mayor and city council. This allowed for more development within the community such as street lights and sidewalks. By 1910 Amity had become a thriving community with many stores and businesses lining the streets throughout downtown. The population of Amity had grown to over 1,000 people by this time and it was growing rapidly due to its proximity to Little Rock. With its growing population came an increase in entertainment venues such as movie theaters and amusement parks which attracted visitors from all over Arkansas.
